SeniorCARE Altoona opened its doors for business on June 5, 2012, in the Gables Building located in Downtown Altoona.
SeniorCARE Altoona offers a structured program of social, recreational, and health-related activities coordinated by an interdisciplinary team of caring professionals. The facility provides adult day care for all senior residents of Blair County, whether or not they are members of SeniorLIFE.
The completely remodeled and new facility boasts a full time staff, on-site nurse, individual bathrooms and a large gathering room for activities that looks directly onto 12th Avenue. In addition the drop-off and pick-up areas have been constructed inside of the parking garage to provide safe access no matter how the weather is outside. The inviting front porch welcomes everyone to a caring home away from home feeling.
“We provide a safe and stimulating environment where older adults can socialize and participate in a variety of activities,” stated Suzy Knorr, Adult Day Director. “Caregivers can relax knowing that their loved ones are being well cared for by the compassionate professionals at SeniorCARE.”
The Altoona program is ideal for elderly people who cannot be left alone during the day, yet do not require 24-hour care, those who may suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia disorders, those who are physically impaired, those who feel unsafe being alone at home, or those who are socially isolated. SeniorCARE Altoona is also an affordable way to provide caregivers with respite from the stresses of 24-hour care giving.
The Altoona location is starting as an a strictly day facility, however, there is adequate space onsite to support future growth into a full-time SeniorLIFE facility of the need exists in the region.
