The IMC’s most recent Industry Spotlight is focused on Altoona Pipe & Steel Supply Co. of Altoona, PA. Altoona Pipe & Steel began in 1891 as a scrap facility with one horse and one cart.
After five generations of leadership, Altoona Pipe & Steel and Cumber Pipe and Steel have grown to include service center sales in both steel and pipe as well as fabrication and railcar repair. Their steel service center is a distributor of steel products and produces customized designs to meet specific customer requirements.
“We claim and stand behind our statement that ‘Only the Best Work Here’,” said Joel Hollander, President of Altoona Pipe & Steel. “This speaks volumes about the type of individual that works here.”
Their pipe service center maintains a substantial inventory and also provides custom services for material distribution. The fabrication division provides a full range of services in the structural steel and miscellaneous metal fields of construction. These products have been used in numerous construction projects in the region and state.
Their railcar maintenance division inspects, repairs and rebuilds railroad cars and their finished products are in service across the country on a daily basis.
