Over 200 people attended the annual meeting of the Altoona-Blair County Development Corp. (ABCD Corp.) at the Blair County Convention Center. The Keynote Speaker for the event was Mr. Christopher Gessner, President, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh
of UPMC. Mr. Gessner’s presentation highlighted the changing paradigm of healthcare as well as focusing on UPMC’s approach to mergers as they relate to the future with the Altoona Regional Health System.
Steve Foreman, Chairman of ABCD Corp. presented the organization’s annual report and highlighted the outcomes of 2012. Successes highlighted were:
• Roaring Spring Blank Book’s 125th Anniversary
• Building Dedications for Gardner Denver and Blair Candy Company
• Groundbreaking for Value Drug Company’s new Distribution Center
• Small Business Investment and New Facilities for; Lemme Audiology
Assoc., Smithmyer Plumbing and Heating and the Everett Railroad
The results for over 40 projects that ABCD Corp. was involved with for 2012 include:
• Total Project Costs over $39 million
• Over 250 Jobs Created/Retained
• $17 million in Business Financing Support
The event was also highlighted by the presentation of ABCD Corp.’s Economic Development Partnership Awards to the Bellwood-Antis School District and FirstEnergy Economic Development. The award is to presented

The final award of the event was the Alexander A. Notopoulos Award for the Outstanding Business of the Year, which is named for Attorney Notopoulos as a tribute for his many years of dedicated service to Altoona Enterprises, Inc. and the Altoona/Blair County area. The 2012 recipient was presented to Value Drug Company and on hand were Rowland
Tibbot, Jr., Gregory Drew and Karla Moschella.
